Love Your Park 11/4

On November 4th as part of Love Your Park- SEAMAAC joined Friends of Mifflin Square Park, LOMO and PWD for a the park clean up, information sharing regarding park designs and PWD’s green projects including  Green City, Clean Waters . Thanks to all the volunteers who came out on Saturday for the clean-up and help with the Gathering Gardening. Great to hear compliments of how colorful and beautiful the garden space has become!  Thanks for the beatification help from UPENN’s PEER Program and many others who have helped to build, plant and tend to the garden.

Gathering Garden Build and Planting

Mifflin Square Park Gathering Garden building day with SEAMAAC team, residents, CDLs and friends & first round of planting. Thanks to Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Friends of Mifflin Square Park for assisting and Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia (CAGP) for bringing out helpers for the day.

We had a great time and if you are interested in helping out, come to LOVE YOUR PARK day 11/4 from 12-2 PM. Join us to create a welcoming garden filled with herbs, flowers and native plants!

From Southeast by Southeast’s Melissa Fogg: Southeast by Southeast Burmese and Bhutanese after school students visited the Cambodian Association’s after school program to talk about their dreams for outdoor space at Mifflin Square! Kids were particularly excited about swimming pools, full-size soccer courts, and a hill with a tower and tunnel…but decided that they would be happy with improved seating, sporting facilities, barbecue areas, and flower gardens. Some of the kids felt “too cool” for the event on their way over, but were complete converts by 5:00. They are excited for changes to the park to begin, and now feel a real sense of ownership and engagement with the design process!
